iPhone Duo, Apple's first folding iPhone model, was out of stock just minutes after opening pre-orders on October 16, 2026. On eBay, a 2 TB version is marked as sold for 5,000 USD, equivalent to about 130.5 million VND. This is about 26.5 million VND higher than the most expensive version Apple sells genuine in Vietnam.

Apple opened pre-orders for the iPhone Duo, its first folding iPhone model, on October 16, 2026 and the device was out of stock in just a few minutes. The official opening date remains the same as October 23, 2026, but new customers in the US must wait until January 25, 2027 to receive the device. This timeout applies to all instances.

According to the technology site PhoneArena, the reason is believed to be that speculator groups use automated tools (bots) to collect large quantities, causing many regular customers to not have time to place orders.

Immediately after being out of stock, the iPhone Duo appeared on eBay at a much higher price than listed. A Night Sky color, 2 TB version, is marked as sold for 5,000 USD (about 130.5 million VND), while Apple sells this version in the US for 3,199 USD (about 83.5 million VND). The buyer paid about 1,800 USD more (more than 46 million VND). A pre-order of the 1TB version of the same color is also sold for 4,400 USD (about 113 million VND), compared to the original price of 2,599 USD (about 67 million VND).

Most listings on eBay are for pre-order sales, not machines available for immediate delivery. Whether these transactions have been completed or not is currently unconfirmed.

The speculative price of iPhone Duo in the US is up to 130.5 million VND, about 26.5 million VND higher than the genuine 2 TB version in Vietnam, which is about 25% more expensive. Compared to the cheapest 256 GB version, the speculative price is about 2 times higher, a difference of about 65.5 million VND.

Many users are disappointed because they believe that Apple has not taken effective measures to prevent bots from collecting goods, although this is not the first time the company's new products have been subject to speculation. PhoneArena commented that Apple should have been more prepared, because warnings about limited supply appeared before the name iPhone Duo was announced. Besides, if not handled, customers may have to wait many more months until the first information about iPhone Duo 2 appears.

As for Apple, the company described pre-order demand as "phenomenal". Apple said it will strive to bring the device to more customers and continue to accept online orders.

Speculation is not the only cause. According to ZDNet Korea, Apple has asked suppliers to increase the production of components for the iPhone Duo, but this may not help the company quickly make up for the shortage of devices.

PhoneArena said a major obstacle is the limited supply of T-Glass from Nitto Boseki (Japan). T-Glass is a specialized type of glass fiber in electronic circuit boards, making the circuit board more stable and less deformed due to heat. If the supply of this material does not improve, it will be difficult for Apple to accelerate production, even when other components have increased production.

Some rumors say that the number of devices available for customers to buy directly at the store will be very limited. However, an Apple Store employee denied this information when responding to PhoneArena

In the Vietnamese market, Apple's first folding iPhone model is also in short supply. iPhone Duo opens for pre-order in Vietnam from 7:00 p.m. on October 16, 2026 (Vietnam time) and many dealers have announced that capacity is sold out after just a few minutes, customers may have to wait until December 2026 to receive the device.

On the morning of October 23, iPhone Duo will officially go on sale in the Vietnamese market. However, the number of users who can receive the device on the first day of sale is not many.
